Share of groundwater and surface water monitoring points by nitrates concentration trend class in the EU27 or specific country, categorised by station type [chart]

The dashboard shows the share of monitoring points in different nitrate (NO3) concentration trend classesreported under the 8^th reporting period (2020-2023) of the Nitrates Directive. Nitrate concentration trend class refers to the change in the nitrate concentrations during the reporting period compared to the previous one. Filters allow the user to explore the data by water bodies: Groundwater, Surface waters, including Freshwater and Saline waters,for the EU27 countries.

The expert dashboards show the data of the EU27 countries reported electronically to the EEA for the 8^th cycle of the Nitrates Directive. Countries included in the “EU27”: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden.

Only stations that were not reported removed were considered.

Trends: increase or decrease in the nitrates concentrations during the reporting period compared to the previous.
Changes were classified as 'weak' if they ranged between 1 and 5 milligrams of nitrates per litre, and 'strong' if they were more than 5 milligrams of nitrates per litre.
